Frequently asked questions.

Do I need specialist insurance for my pure electric or plug-in hybrid car?
No, traditional car insurance covers electric cars, but with MINI Flex Car Insurance we provide clear coverage on protecting the things that matter with your electric car like cables, home charging, battery and trip hazards.
Is my battery covered?
Yes, your battery is covered against accidental damage, fire and theft, even if it is leased.
Are electric cars more expensive to insure?
Electric and hybrid cars can be slightly more expensive than petrol or diesel cars, insurers generally give them a higher rating due to the expense of specialist parts and repair. As more electric vehicles become available and the Government’s ban on the production of new diesel and petrol cars, the cost of insurance may reduce.
What happens if someone trips over my cable?
You are covered if someone trips over your cable whilst charging your electric or hybrid car at home or away.
Is my wall box and cables covered?
Your wall box and cables are insured against accidental damage, fire and theft.
